A great turnout this weekend for the official launch at  the Newstead Arts Hub of Organic Plastic. Agathe, Louise, myself, Julie & Mary Speeches took place between Julie Patey of the Newstead Arts Hub , Mary Blain of Mount Alexander Sustainability group in Castlemaine (MASG)and Louise Jiricek launching her new community project Boomerang Bags Newstead. here with Louise The crowd included Juliet from the local primary school. Some of the children  came to view and show their parents the artwork they put together with trash during our Art & Sustainability workshops at school last week.

An unusual idea came to me while away but always wanted to make. Also the material found were perfect for this project. Collecting, gathering and recording trash while walking the street of Sydney suburbs allowed me to create this work and of course as you will see this happen to look like fashion... squeezing the waistline looking at the tail of the dress  Now do you see what I see when I mention fashion albeit now fashionable trash in Pyrmont and that is where fashion came into my mind

What an experience to see your own work in a magical landscape under the tree canopy of the N.S.W. Blue Mountains. This exhibit of what sculpture is now is an extroardinary survey of public spatial practice with in the lush enclosure of an untouched forest on the side of a mountain.

Wednesday 25 November 2015, 11.00 am  to  Thursday 31 December 2015, 11.00 pm Carolyn Cardinet's  Like and oil spill, plastic never goes away  is an all black immersive installation comprising assorted discarded black plastic and fibreglass PVC mesh. The exhibition space is transformed into a window that reflects on the state of the ocean seabed. This work is assembled out of the black plastic that Cardinet has collected from Port Phillip Bay and gleaned from the streets around her studio. As the artist states, "Most of the plastic ‘detritus’ appearing in the work passed through someone's hands, used only once before being discarded in the overflowing bins of our city streets before washing up on our shores. The work explicitly asks 'how much more plastic do we need?' With current rates of consumption we are arguably at a point of no return. One can easily foresee the whole sea, like this installation, being strewn with debris that will never disappe...

The Great Mother Goddess 2013 'Creative SustainAbility' 27.05.13 - 26.06.2013 @ St Kilda Town hall My work is created from rubbish washed up on our local beaches. The Jellyfish tentacles are filled with an array of everyday junk polluting our ocean and beaches. I collect objects found locally and use them to create awareness in what is left behind.   The sheer amount of plastic was a catalyst in my research and interest in sustainability.  The Great Pacific Garbage Patch (7th continent) was paramount in my decision to pursue this pressing issue in my art practice.

Oceans is a 2009 film by Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud, narrated by the handsome Pierce Brosnan. Although you can only hear him. It took 4 years to film all the material needed to make 'Oceans'. Watching this documentary is music to our ears and a total and absolute pleasure to watch. I highly recommend it for all young and older public. Below are some exerts of the commentary read by Pierce Brosnan. A little bit at a time new forms of life ripple the waters of the world, spreading and multiplying adapting and evolving Pollution runs out of rivers spilling (as can be seen by satellite) We have littered the oceans with hundreds of thousands of trash spilling poison around. Carolyn Cardinet and Janita Ryan regurgitate the flotsam and jetsam spewed onto the City of Port Philip shoreline between 2011 and 2012. This gleaned debris is reprocessed, decontextualized from its original purpose and reframed to take on new meaning. Cardinet’s large monochromatic paintings hanging from the gallery’s beams are a strong contrast to Ryan’s miniature egg tempera works.

In Memoriam 2 @ Gossard Space This installation of single use cardboard packaging used to transport art stretchers is painting with mistints from Bunnings The idea of this project is to use the overlooked. Many items  has been regarded as not worthy by Western society. The sad truth is that yet we produce more, when we already have plenty to use and choose from.

This piece Family is made of single use packaging. What is considered art ? What can be used as a support to make art? What is in the box (wooden art stretchers) or can the packaging be used instead Paintings of plastic trash washed on shore are painted on the boxes as unstable towers

Black Plastic unnoticed forgotten trash washing up on our shores

 This investigation has been a real eye opener here are some of the fondu bottles found on the beach These have been picked this morning on our well beloved St Kilda beach After being washed in a light soapy water the bottles will be sliced and reused in my work 'Black Widow' More photos to come shortly of the nearly resolved installation

On the beach as we pick up all sorts of stuff people come to us and ask us what we do It is a great way to spread the awareness of the 'contagious plastic' and may be they will also do something about it!.....One can only hope! This is a pile of rubbish in our beautiful St Kilda foreshore after a wild weekend One can see the St Kilda Pier and St Kilda Baths in the distance A walker said this morning: 'Oh the beach is really dirty this morning!' My response to her was: 'Yes the cleaning truck hasn't been as yet' How can people be so oblivious to their own environment After sifting through the muck Home for cleaning the plastic colour lids This is what is there everyday in the sand
