Collaboration on an installation or 2

Image
Installation Collab with Artist Tim McLoraine We are in Washington D.C. at Red Dirt Studios How amazing is this piece Moon Cocoon is getting better and better as we create it It has been a fun and interesting project to use and re-use Millard from Tim's studio that Time used on another project prior to this and am sure again in future projects as we are discovering more and more of its potentiality. That is why I love working with unconventional materials as there is no prescribe used for these items, well lets re-prhrase this there is but that was for the object first purpose and as a discarded object it become now something else and something beautiful and no longer a functional object.

RMIT talk at the Port Phillip Bay Symposium

Image
After working with scientist and researchers at RMIT University during my Art & Science residency in Sydney this year I was honoured to be asked to be a speaker for the RMIT symposium on the state of the bay. The Importance of Art & Science Collaboration in this Day & Age By Carolyn Cardinet Thursday 14 Dec 2017 11.30-11.45 RMIT - Port Phillip Bay Symposium ‘What happens when these 2 tribes meet’ was the title of an article written on the matter in 2011 Well first we say hello, then both parties are nervous as one has never met someone else interested in their own passion, in their own field of research but somehow after a few meetings one starts to understand that artists and scientists are very similar. Similar you may not think but similar we are. Both tribes are making/creating/voicing hypothesis in their own field. Hypothesis that may or may not have an answer as yet but never the less an answer will eventually come. I have to say that hypothesi...

The Mill will be an exhibition space opposite the glorious Botanical Gardens. Plastic Waterways - installation at night  Surprised this morning to have the light streaming onto my work light and shadow adding a new dimension to this installation with a quick portrait just before we de-install  The work Plastic Waterways was a map of Victoria's waterways engraved and of the coast cut-out a project made and inspired from possum cloaks which were painted with aerial maps of the local tribe.  Creating awareness in plastic consumerism and plastic pollution is something I am passionate about in my art practice. Through my art practice, I have a visual language to contribute to the dialogue which is starting but only just starting to happen around the world. T...

Back in the studio

And happily I must say as to experience ones studio without the close pressure of an upcoming exhibition. This time allows one to experiment and test what your imagination has given you that you translated in drawing format for the past few months... So I decided and probably due to a lack of space in my studio to render & make small the many sketches i n my artist diary.  Here comes a world of maquettes... However am already finding that I itch to see my new creations in a large or extra large format... Patience is a virtue they say and art has certainly put me through that test along the way.                      The artist studio

A very positive world wind weekend at Lorne Victoria

Image
Exhausted and very happy to have participated in Lorne Sculpturescape this year a massive weekend but so so rewarding to engage with the crowd and hear their thoughts responses and questions about the work for for anyone who didn't have the occasion to ask here is the cheat sheet or Fat Sheet: 1 strand is one 2 litre milk plastic bottle 250 bottle per branches 3 trees 5 branches 1200 bottles although I probably did cut 1500 as some didn't really make the cut for this work all bottle were cut by hand scissors were used at first then RSI injury led me to use a Stanley knife to finish this work it took 18 months to create this work this includes collecting, washing, removing the labels-plastic rings and plastic lids, the cutting & threading onto ropes

Installation is on view till 17 January 2016 at the Manningham Curio space

Wednesday 25 November 2015, 11.00 am  to  Thursday 31 December 2015, 11.00 pm Carolyn Cardinet's  Like and oil spill, plastic never goes away  is an all black immersive installation comprising assorted discarded black plastic and fibreglass PVC mesh. The exhibition space is transformed into a window that reflects on the state of the ocean seabed. This work is assembled out of the black plastic that Cardinet has collected from Port Phillip Bay and gleaned from the streets around her studio. As the artist states, "Most of the plastic ‘detritus’ appearing in the work passed through someone's hands, used only once before being discarded in the overflowing bins of our city streets before washing up on our shores. The work explicitly asks 'how much more plastic do we need?' With current rates of consumption we are arguably at a point of no return. One can easily foresee the whole sea, like this installation, being strewn with debris that will never disappe...
