A Bugs Hotel for the community children to create. This project will go on living at one of the school grounds to offer shelter to insects in need of a nest and home. For this project we used gleaned plastic materials that we incorporated in each hotel room with found organic material.  The Mount Rainier children had a ball and so did I as they showed an extreme amount of thoughtfulness in their constructions. to view more follow artsmart_eco_workshops on instagram

As the Waste Gateway is being installed social media notices this surplus Plastic! Yes I know but these single-use plastic fruit and veges packaging are there to remind everyone how ridiculous our consumerism has become with packaging, here and around the world!

It is that time of the year again and I am getting prepared to go on my 2016 Can Serrat artist residency in Spain at the bottom of Mount Serrat 40kms away from Barcelona this September. I am very excited to refresh my artist soul, fill my image library and see what else is out there plus visit my family and friends in Paris and later on in Portugal. I will be developing new series influenced by my surroundings as I would like to surrender to my new environment and I cannot wait to show you the results as I will go dark for the next 6 weeks and will live a life of serenity without any social media (so she says)... Having a week turn around between 2 exhibits has been somehow a challenge to be able to transform the previous work into a new artwork. So spending days and night cutting the ends of the previous work to then glue and assemble the strands into new lengths  to create a totally new work. The experience was interesting overall totally possible but you do not foresee on being totally exhausted from the previous 2 other exhibits you also had in the last 4 weeks or so.  how the work came back from Lorne  Cutting the tentacles   Gluing the strands together  still adding some length needed for the sculptures Thankfully everything went well to the last minute still wrapping the work when my new sculpture was picked up ahead of a long drive up to Sydney. Two years ago I had the privilege to be asked to put up a show for the Sustainable Living Festival and this year I am participating in the decor for the 200 guests+ table for the Great Local Lunch  which will allow me to use many of the single-use packaging I have gleaned, foraged and collected the last few months. The event will take place Subday 14 February at Birramung Mar.     Photo by David Warnock Like and oil spill, plastic never goes away  is an all black immersive installation.  The exhibition space is transformed into a window that reflects on the state of our oceans’ seabeds. The work is assembled out of the black plastic I have collected from Port Phillip Bay and gleaned from the streets around my studio. Most of the plastic ‘detritus’ appearing in the work passed through our hands, used only once before being discarded in the overflowing bins of our city streets before washing up on our shores. The work explicitly asks “how much more plastic do we need?” With current rates of consumption we are arguably at a point of no return. One can easily foresee the whole sea (as in this installation) being strewn with debris that will never disappear unless we stop using plastic, start to care for our eco-system and reconnect with our environment.                  ...

The Great Mother Goddess 2013 'Creative SustainAbility' 27.05.13 - 26.06.2013 @ St Kilda Town hall My work is created from rubbish washed up on our local beaches. The Jellyfish tentacles are filled with an array of everyday junk polluting our ocean and beaches. I collect objects found locally and use them to create awareness in what is left behind.   The sheer amount of plastic was a catalyst in my research and interest in sustainability.  The Great Pacific Garbage Patch (7th continent) was paramount in my decision to pursue this pressing issue in my art practice.

Oceans is a 2009 film by Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud, narrated by the handsome Pierce Brosnan. Although you can only hear him. It took 4 years to film all the material needed to make 'Oceans'. Watching this documentary is music to our ears and a total and absolute pleasure to watch. I highly recommend it for all young and older public. Below are some exerts of the commentary read by Pierce Brosnan. A little bit at a time new forms of life ripple the waters of the world, spreading and multiplying adapting and evolving Pollution runs out of rivers spilling (as can be seen by satellite) We have littered the oceans with hundreds of thousands of trash spilling poison around. Sculpture III 2013 Copper and Found Black Plastic Human 'objects' challenge each creature to find new place or new ways to survive. Human indifference is surely the Ocean greatest threat. Every Breath We Take Every Drop We Drink Depends on a Healthy Ocean
