These portraits in a sense interrogate our social landscapes of consumption I have been traveling for a month long everyday  from Bethesda - Friendship Height metro station to Rhode Island stop and then take the bus down to 34th St off Rhode Island avenue twice a day. During these trips I had the occasion to see all kind of characters coming in and out of the bus and being the minority aboard the bus in this area. These rides gave me the opportunity to try something I had wanted to try for a while.  Making portraits out of single-use plastic waste.  So this artist residency at the Red Dirt Studio as well as the plastics found on the streets around the studio was the perfect time and allowed me to do this side project. Like sketches for further enquiry these portraits were done as preliminary drawing studies for further enquiries when I am back home.

Installation Collab with Artist Tim McLoraine We are in Washington D.C. at Red Dirt Studios How amazing is this piece Moon Cocoon is getting better and better as we create it It has been a fun and interesting project to use and re-use Millard from Tim's studio that Time used on another project prior to this and am sure again in future projects as we are discovering more and more of its potentiality. That is why I love working with unconventional materials as there is no prescribe used for these items, well lets re-prhrase this there is but that was for the object first purpose and as a discarded object it become now something else and something beautiful and no longer a functional object.

This summer collecting hundreds of plastic punnets has been on my dial and of others.  All to be used to create the entrance arc for this year Sustainable Living Festival 2018. Burrinja Climate Change Biennale 2017 The upcoming Burrinja Climate Change Biennale will open 11 November at the  Burrrinja Cultural Centre in Upwey - Dandenong This exhibition will run til 11 February 2018

A beautiful day to paint in my studio at the old railway station... Jellyfish trio view from the platform Yesterday I had the pleasure to meet with a couple of local artists in Newstead. Horse (artist nickname) took me to meet Roger and his eclectic sculpture garden. His sculpture park is always in the process of making and remaking to see the possibilities at hand. His house with no running water or electricity is a testament to simple life and what little means  is needed to make some great art .

A great turnout this weekend for the official launch at  the Newstead Arts Hub of Organic Plastic. Agathe, Louise, myself, Julie & Mary Speeches took place between Julie Patey of the Newstead Arts Hub , Mary Blain of Mount Alexander Sustainability group in Castlemaine (MASG)and Louise Jiricek launching her new community project Boomerang Bags Newstead. here with Louise The crowd included Juliet from the local primary school. Some of the children  came to view and show their parents the artwork they put together with trash during our Art & Sustainability workshops at school last week.

Whaaaat! but just for a few weeks as am off to an artist residency in Spain I am getting exited to inpregnate myself with my new surroundings culture and art while bathing myself in this new autumn sunlight. I shall be off the grid for the next 6 weeks and will let you know all about it upon my return... Hasta la Vista! Meanwhile...

Organic Plastic is an exhibition of small works made out of the plastics we use in our daily lives this plastic becomes detritus after one single-use! How can we live with that? Studio shot August 2016 This series of small work will be presented at the Unicorn Gallery 17 Aug-29 Sept 2016 and can be viewed 24/7. Looking forward to setting up the works in 9 windows of different format.

With simple means Organic Plastic did see the light of the day at the YSG in 2016.  Hanging from a wooden branch plastic polyethylene rectangles were assembled into a plastic sheeting or a shield? What is our future? Will it protect us? Will it keep us warm? What happens with plastic debris that never disapears? Will it be the nightmare of our generation to bear?

 Organic Plastic  Working away at completing works for The Castlemaine Arts Festival 'Organic Plastic' is a curated show in boxed framed white windows @ Wide Open Road Art (WORA) cnr Hargraves & Mostyn Sts from March 5th For a while I have been toying with this idea of framing together nature and found objects. Installation of Poly-sea-jelly on scaffolding went according to plan with a slight and change for the better.  Looking forward to seeing you on Oct 25 for the official opening at Yering Station in the Yarra Valley.

Putting the last touch to my entry for the Yering Sculpture Prize 2015 in the Yarra Valley 'Poly Sea Jelly' is an assemblage of hand-cut polyethylene. Each strand is attached to a single metal frame. The structure is lit up internally with LED's. I must say I cannot wait to see this work  in-situ hanging inside the gallery Opening day Sunday 25th October 2915!

To be allowed to have the time to glean, reflect and play with an idea and have access any time to your own laboratory/studio is a gift to any artist Thank you for people in communities forseeing this need and providing this privileged time to create in a little known area and away from artists lonesome studios. Discovering different areas, experiencing the local food, engaging with communities and being exposed to the public during the making of the artwork will greatly influence the work process and outcome of the work. Creating engagement, exchange and even collaboration with the local community is an unforgetable experience for the maker.
