The Sustainable Living Festival: Zero Waste Luncheon

I am delighted to have been selected to participate in the Melbourne Food and Wine event
 organised by the Sustainable Table: a Zero Waste Luncheon  

As an experimental artist, the nature of my work involves adapting the materials fossicked and collected. As such the objects become redefined into a plethora of sculptural forms and installations, often informed by creatures from the deep encountered during their washed up journey to our shores.

Oceans

Oceans is a 2009 film by Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud, narrated by the handsome Pierce Brosnan. Although you can only hear him. It took 4 years to film all the material needed to make 'Oceans'. Watching this documentary is music to our ears and a total and absolute pleasure to watch. I highly recommend it for all young and older public. Below are some exerts of the commentary read by Pierce Brosnan. A little bit at a time new forms of life ripple the waters of the world, spreading and multiplying adapting and evolving Pollution runs out of rivers spilling (as can be seen by satellite) We have littered the oceans with hundreds of thousands of trash spilling poison around. Sculpture III 2013 Copper and Found Black Plastic Human 'objects' challenge each creature to find new place or new ways to survive. Human indifference is surely the Ocean greatest threat. Plastic Portraits

These portraits in a sense interrogate our social landscapes of consumption I have been traveling for a month long everyday  from Bethesda - Friendship Height metro station to Rhode Island stop and then take the bus down to 34th St off Rhode Island avenue twice a day. During these trips I had the occasion to see all kind of characters coming in and out of the bus and being the minority aboard the bus in this area. These rides gave me the opportunity to try something I had wanted to try for a while.  Making portraits out of single-use plastic waste.  So this artist residency at the Red Dirt Studio as well as the plastics found on the streets around the studio was the perfect time and allowed me to do this side project. Like sketches for further enquiry these portraits were done as preliminary drawing studies for further enquiries when I am back home.
